Wreaths Across America Ceremony Recap

On Saturday, December 14th, 2019, our local heroes were recognized in a poignant, beautiful way. Alongside members of our community and partners, our Sarasota Military Academy (SMA) cadets and staff proudly honored fallen veterans. Although the rain tried to derail the planned events, our proud cadets and supporters remained steadfast, in a touching show of respect reflected by all in attendance.

Through a partnership with Wreaths Across America, this annual event began when the Sarasota National Cemetery opened in 2009. Because of our Academy, the SMA Parent Teacher Cadet Council (PTCC), partnering organizations, individuals and businesses in our community, more than 15,000 gravesites were covered with beautiful wreaths through annual fundraising efforts.

The Wreaths Across America nonprofit organization aims to remember fallen U.S. veterans, honor those who serve and teach children the value of freedom.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our SMA family and friends, and our community, for their continued support through the Wreaths Across America campaign every year. I wish there was a way to express how large of an impact their support has made to the lives of our cadets and the families of those fallen heroes, and we would love to invite everyone to join us again next year to witness this incredible occasion. It’s a day to respect and honor those who gave all in service to their country, and we can all use a bit of that passion and inspiration in our daily lives.

Respectfully,
SMA-COL Christina Bowman
